Graduate Student Researchers Frequently Asked Questions

Q6 - Can I have multiple appointments?

A6 – You may have multiple appointments with different departments as long as you don’t go over 50% during the Spring and Fall Semesters and 100% during the Summer Session and Winter Break.

Q7 - When do Fee Remissions apply?

A7 – Fee Remissions for GSRs only apply during the Spring and Fall Semesters, with appointments totaling 25% or more for the full semester.  Fee Remissions DO NOT apply during the Summer Session or Winter Break.

Q8 - How is my pay rate determined?

A8 – The standard GSR appointment in IBER is usually at Step 2 of the salary scale (current monthly rate of $2,719).  If unique skills, e.g. advanced coursework, complex computing skills, foreign language, are needed for the research, it may be appropriate to appoint at a higher step.  Students with longer service and experience in the position may be compensated at higher steps.  Depending on the availability of funds, an increase of one step per year of service is reasonable. Ultimately, the faculty investigator determines the rate of pay in accordance with available resources and candidate experience.

Q9 - Where can I get the timesheets and when do I have to turn them in?

A9 – Timesheets are due no later than the 25th of every month.  You can get the timesheets in one of two places: First, you may go to the link provided below or you can go to the IBER office where you can find hard copies already printed.
