Obtaining Extramural Research Grants

To fulfill its mission of supporting research in Business and Economics, IBER actively assists UC Berkeley faculty in obtaining extramural funding for their research. If you have a project (either individual or collaborative) within the business and economics sphere for which you are seeking outside funding, contact Bob Barde, IBER’s Deputy Director, for assistance with the following:

  • Identifying potential funding sources for faculty research priorities
  • Making preliminary inquiries to these sources
  • Preparing a proposal

The bulk of IBER's grant-getting experience has been with the National Science Foundation, and particularly the programs within the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Research area. IBER also has significant experience with the National Institutes of Health, Mental Health, and the Environmental Protection Agency. In addition to these government agencies, we have dealt with various private foundations and systemwide programs sponsored by the UC Office of the President.
