The Economics Department has selected Cha-young (Jay) Kim as the recipient of the Shapiro Fellowship for Spring 2003. Jay is originally from Yonsei University in Korea, but after her sophomore year went to UC Santa Cruz as an exchange student, fell in love with the redwoods, and decided to stay. Having received a BA in mathematics and economics, her primary interest is in economic development, especially financial institutions in developing countries.
